The temple was established by Swami Haridas, a great devotee of Lord Krishna and the guru of the famous musician Tansen. The idol of Banke Bihari was originally worshipped in Nidhivan and later moved to the present temple.
The temple showcases traditional Rajasthani architecture with intricate carvings and beautiful paintings depicting various leelas of Lord Krishna. The sanctum sanctorum has a unique design where the curtains are drawn periodically to give rest to the deity.
Modest traditional attire is recommended. Men should wear dhoti/kurta or formal pants. Women should wear saree, salwar kameez, or long skirts. Shorts and sleeveless tops are not allowed.
Free entry for all. Photography is prohibited inside the sanctum. Mobile phones and cameras need to be deposited at the entrance. Special VIP darshan passes are available for senior citizens and differently-abled.
Photography and videography are strictly prohibited inside the temple premises. Lockers are available outside for storing cameras and phones.
Located in the heart of Vrindavan, about 10 km from Mathura Junction railway station. Auto-rickshaws and cycle rickshaws are easily available. The temple is accessible via the narrow lanes of old Vrindavan.
