The Legend of Lathmar Holi
According to legend, Lord Krishna from Nandgaon would visit Barsana to tease Radha and her friends. The women of Barsana would chase the men away with sticks. This playful tradition continues to this day, celebrated with great enthusiasm.
When to Visit
Lathmar Holi is celebrated a week before the main Holi festival. The celebrations span several days:
- Lathmar Holi at Barsana - 7 days before Holi
- Lathmar Holi at Nandgaon - 6 days before Holi
- Widow's Holi - 5 days before Holi
- Main Holi - Full moon day (Phalguna Purnima)

Barsana is located about 50 km from Mathura and 115 km from Delhi. Regular buses and taxis are available from Mathura, Vrindavan, and Delhi. The nearest railway station is Mathura Junction.
